Itinerary

Departure in the morning from Marrakech to reach the village of Mhamid, at the gates of the desert (private transport with Osez Le Desert Du Maroc). Possible stop in an Atlas village, visit to Ait Beh Haddou near Ouarzazate (a Ksar classified as a UNESCO heritage site). In the evening, overnight stay in a comfortable fixed camp in the heart of the palm grove.

Departure on foot: M'hamid, at the gates of the Sahara - We start this 8-day trek on foot from M'hamid. At the pace of the camels, we cross the beautiful Palmeraie of M'hamid. After lunch, we reach the sanctuary of Sidi Naji to spend the night. The landscape alternates between small dunes, plateaus, and tamarisk groves.

Departure from the dunes of Sidi Naji for a hike of a few hours towards the large dunes of Zmayla. The landscape is completely wild, with no signs of life. Lunch is set up in the shade of a tamarisk in Amyrir. The bivouac is set up for the night near the reliefs of the Hamada du Draa.

After loading the camel caravan, we reach the magnificent howling dunes, this ocean of sand that offers a splendid panorama. Night under the tent or under the stars.

The reliefs of the Hamada du Draa fade away as we reach Erg Sadra. We make a stop at Erg Smar, an opportunity to replenish water and water the camels. Perhaps we will meet a nomadic shepherd who has also come to supply his herd.

We head towards Erg Bougarn, also one of the tracks formerly frequented by nomadic caravanners to reach Timbuktu.

We continue our trek towards Oued Naan, an opportunity for a change of scenery. Another facet of the Sahara Desert. We approach the stone desert.

The stone desert unfolds before us for a few hours of walking. We follow Oued Naan. The bivouac is set up for the night at Bertham near a well.

It's the return to M'hamid! An opportunity, at your convenience, to enjoy the hammam, visit the village and its kasbahs, share a couscous with Ali's family, or visit a local cooperative for semolina production. Return to Marrakech in the late evening with Osez Le Desert Du Maroc (optional).
