Itinerary

Departure in the morning from Marrakech (Agadir or Ouarzazate) to reach the village of Tagounite, in the heart of the regs of the Drâa Valley. The approximately 6.5-hour journey offers magnificent landscapes between the orange slopes of the Atlas and the rock formations of the Drâa Valley. The last kilometers are on a track to join the camel team and the caravan of camels. After a walk, the duration of which depends on the arrival time in Tagounite, the first nomadic bivouac is set up on the plateaus of the Hamada du Drâa.

The trek route, from Erg Sahal to Amrir, allows progress along the Hamada du Drâa, through the magnificent landscapes of mountains, oases, ergs, and regs. Far from everything, in a silence that can be deafening, the landscapes succeed each other and reveal a grandiose Sahara. The camel team, native to the desert, knows this environment perfectly and knows how to adapt to it. Their expertise and ease in this hostile Sahara offer a real nomadic experience as in the time of camel caravans of the past. Nights are spent in nomadic bivouacs, under tents or under the stars.

Gradually, the desert of stones and the hamada give way to dunes and the numerous ergs of the Drâa Valley. From now on, the trek leads east towards the magnificent ergs Zmila and Zahar (called singing dunes for the sound produced when their sand moves), then Erg Ait Ounir. Each erg has its peculiarities: its vegetation, its shape, the purity of its sand. Nights are offered in tents or under the stars, in the heart of the dunes. Day 7 - the last day of the trek - allows you to find the bed of the Oued Drâa (mostly dry river) and then discover, nestled in the dunes, the fixed bivouac "Osez Le Desert Du Maroc". A hammam or shower is possible. At sunset, civilization reappears in the distance with the lights of the village of Mhamid el Ghizlane. A last night in a "comfortable" fixed bivouac completes this unique journey.

After breakfast, we return to the vehicle to explore the village of Mhamid (15 minutes on a track) and then the national road N°9 to reach successively Ouarzazate, Marrakech, and Agadir. Visit of one or two Kasbahs planned along the way.
