Short Desert Excursion: Journey into the Sahara
Description
What is the difference between an excursion and a trek in the desert?
In comparison to a trek, an excursion in the Moroccan desert is a shorter journey with walks either on foot or by camel. The desert excursion follows non-marked but maintained trails for facilitated hikes, usually near a village or inhabited area.
A 2-day, 1-night desert excursion from Marrakech, Agadir, and Ouarzazate.
This short excursion promises a complete change of scenery, traversing diverse landscapes from the winding roads of the Atlas with imposing reliefs to the vast desert expanses of the Draa Valley. It’s also an encounter with the Sahrawi populations in the southern part of Morocco.

Itinerary
In the morning, depart from Marrakech via the N'Tichka Pass road through the heart of the Moroccan Atlas Mountains toward Ouarzazate. After lunch, continue the journey towards the village of Mhamid El Ghizlane, at the gateway to the Moroccan desert.
Change of transport for the last kilometers! The rest of the journey is done by camel (or on foot, as preferred) to reach the fixed bivouac through the palm grove of Mhamid El Ghizlane. Evening around the campfire and overnight stay at the fixed bivouac (night in a fixed tent or under the stars, according to preferences).
After breakfast, depart on foot through the dunes for a visit to the erg (easy level). An opportunity to discover a unique Sahara. Return to the fixed bivouac is planned for lunch. We then reunite with the vehicle to return to Ouarzazate, Agadir, and Marrakech in the evening.
